I have never had Mediterranean food before. It was worth going. Beef kabobs on a bed of rice with fries and a salad. But you cannot forget the pita. All in all the food was delicious. The salad was so fresh and crispy. With a vinegar dressing on the tomatoes and cucumbers, it stood out by itself. The fries were crispy and hot. I am talking burn your tongue hot. Excellent . The rice was a bright yellow with great flavor. It was not sticky or hard. The rice was cooked to perfection. The pita bread was warm and soft. Easy to make four small sandwiches, which I did. The beef, what can I say. The four chunks of beef were not on a skewer. But that's okay. They made their way to my belly. They were DELICIOUS ! Perfectly medium rare. Tender and juicy. There were almost no photos. The only thing I did not like was it was very crowded and hectic. I highly recommend this restaurant. The food is good, the people nicer.
Overview
Walking into Flame & Skewers Mediterranean Restaurant feels like stepping into a neighborhood spot that already knows your order. Located at 1201 24th St # C110, Bakersfield, CA 93301, United States, this Mediterranean grill has quietly built a reputation among locals who care about flavor, consistency, and food that actually makes you feel good after you eat it.
The first thing that stands out is how the kitchen works. You can see skewers hitting the open flame, meats turning slowly, and vegetables blistering just enough to bring out natural sweetness. Iβve eaten here with coworkers during rushed lunch breaks and also on slower evenings with family, and the process never changes. Proteins are marinated ahead of time, grilled to order, then paired with warm pita, rice, or crisp salad. That kind of consistency is usually what separates a forgettable diner from one people keep recommending in reviews.
The menu covers the Mediterranean staples you expect-chicken kebabs, beef koobideh, lamb, falafel-but itβs the balance that makes it work. Portions are generous without being heavy. One of the cooks once explained how they rely on olive oil, lemon, garlic, and spices instead of butter or cream. That approach lines up with what nutrition research has been saying for years. According to Harvard School of Public Health, Mediterranean-style eating patterns are associated with lower risks of heart disease and better long-term health outcomes. You can taste that philosophy here, especially in the grilled vegetables and fresh sauces.
A real example: during a team lunch, one colleague ordered the mixed skewer plate thinking it would be too much food. It wasnβt. The chicken stayed juicy, the beef had that charred edge you want from a grill, and everything worked together instead of competing on the plate. Another friend who usually avoids red meat sticks with the falafel wrap and swears itβs one of the few places where falafel stays crisp outside and soft inside all the way through.
The dining experience itself is relaxed. No pretension, no overexplaining. Staff members are quick to walk first-timers through the menu and often suggest combinations based on what people like. That kind of guidance matters, especially for guests new to Mediterranean food. It also shows confidence in the product, which is something you notice when a restaurant doesnβt push the most expensive item but the one that fits you best.
Online reviews tend to echo what regulars already know: reliable quality, friendly service, and food that travels well for takeout. Iβve personally picked up dinner here after long workdays, and even after the drive home, the skewers still hold their texture and flavor. Thatβs not accidental; it comes from proper grilling temperatures and resting the meat before serving, a technique commonly recommended by professional chefs and culinary institutes.
There are limits worth mentioning. Seating can feel tight during peak hours, and parking near this location can take patience if you arrive at the lunch rush. Still, most diners Iβve spoken with agree those are minor trade-offs for food that feels thoughtfully prepared and fairly priced.
What keeps people coming back is trust. The ingredients taste fresh, the menu doesnβt chase trends, and the kitchen sticks to methods that work. Mediterranean cuisine has been praised by organizations like the World Health Organization for its emphasis on whole foods, lean proteins, and healthy fats, and this restaurant reflects that without turning dinner into a lecture.
Whether youβre stopping by for a quick lunch, planning a casual dinner, or searching for a dependable spot near downtown Bakersfield, this is one of those places that earns loyalty through repetition. The flavors stay honest, the process stays visible, and every visit reinforces why locals describe it as fresh, filling, and worth the drive.

This was our visit today to the restaurant after hearing great things. We came all the way from Lake Isabella and came back later in the day on our way home for dinner! Two meals and two trips in one day! The quality of the food, price, and customer service from Hannady made both trips today so enjoyable! We loved the chicken kabob plate, especially the garlic sauce, and the fresh green salad. Every side and the kabob were excellent and some of the best Mediterranean food we have had. We came back and got food to go and traveled home and the food was packaged exceptionally well and made the hour plus trip without issue. We are so excited to come back during our next trip to Bakersfield! We look forward to trying the shawarma and bowl option. Great service and experience!
They're always has to be a wonderful Mediterranean restaurant wherever you live. I'm thrilled to announce that we have found our favorite Mediterranean restaurant here in bakersfield. Flame and skewers Mediterranean food met our expectations (which are typically high) for takeout. Their portion for the price is great. The flavoring of the food as well as the freshness seemed to be on par. Overall they were rather quick to get our food to go.
This place is located in a little corner in downtown Bakersfield. The staff is friendly. We ordered the beef junior kabob meal. It came with yellow rice, delicious good size salad, the pita bread, delicious humus, and pieces of beef kabob that were juicy and tender. I was so impressed. It was delicious. I have them four stars only because they serve you a drink and well you have to keep getting up for more of you need it. I didn't get up and I'm not sure if they charge for refills. It would be nice if they had a machine you could just refill on your own. Just saying. The meal was about 12 bucks per plate, which is not bad. Your getting a good portion meal plus it taste delicious. Def will return.
Another great Flame & Skewers location. Service was fast, employees were very nice and inviting. Dining room was clean and most importantly, the food tasted very fresh. I got the chicken salad and added extra dressing and hot sauce on top... SOOOO GOOOD! I had a minor complaint that I wish they put a little more tomatoes and cucumbers in my salad, but overall it still tasted great. Would definitely come back to this location again.
